If you want to save on your ticket then Early Bird pricing is the way to go. For VMware Explore Europe this deal runs from now through to 29th July 5th August (Early Bird period was extended) and cuts the ticket price by 200 Euros. After that there is an additional period called “Last Chance Savings” with a 100 Euro discount on bookings from 30th July to 23rd September. Regular registration then runs right through to the day before the event, priced at 1,675 Euros.

Remember, there’s additional discounts on top of these offers for VMUG Advantage members who can save an extra 100 Euros on each of these.

Why Attend?

:right
Having been to a number of the events over the years (including under the previous brand “VMworld”), I can thoroughly recommend Explore as the place to be to learn about the latest advances in virtualisation from VMware by Broadcom and their partners. There are four days of sessions, but don’t underestimate the benefits of the in-person event over watching the recordings on YouTube. At every VMware conference I’ve attended it’s been the discussions with the presenters and fellow delegates which have really added value to the experience. Those conversations with experts around “how would this work in my environment”, or finding out how someone has approached a problem from a different angle, or discovering a new technology that would have otherwise passed you by. These are all benefits you won’t get from the playback at home.

Sessions are themed around 5 learning tracks: “Cloud Infrastructure”, “Software-Defined Edge”, “Networking, Security and Load Balancing”, “Modern Applications” and “Innovation”. The content catalogue, detailing the material which will be covered, will be published on the 23rd July- although expect extra sessions to be added nearer to (or even during) the event as new products and features are announced. Once you have an idea what you want to see at the show then the scheduler will open on 24th September. Don’t worry if you don’t get all your sessions booked as you can usually queue and get in on the day. Booking in advance does help the organisers get the right room size or arrange repeat sessions though.

The surrounding social events at these big Barcelona conferences are always a bonus- you’ll get lunchtime meals in the conference centre and there’s the big Explore party, plus each evening offers a host of catered events throughout the city by various vendors. And finally, don’t forget that there’s always some swag- not just the official T-shirt and backpack but a host of other goodies from VMware and their partners. I’m not saying you should book a conference ticket just because you need new socks, but go on!
